Winter skin woes, from dryness to redness, the Balance Me experts reveal the skincare tweaks that can help your skin get through the cold snap
Is your skin playing up in the cold? From dryness to redness, the Balance Me experts reveal the skincare tweaks that can help your skin get through the cold snap – no major upsets, thank you.
1. Amp up internal hydration
From cosying up inside by the fire to fresh blasts of cold air outside, constant temperatures swings can quickly blast internal hydration stores, so it’s essential to keep up your fluid intake. Keep a jug of water on your desk or kitchen side as a reminder to top-up; plug in a humidifier at home to keep moisture in the air; switch your second coffee for a herbal tea; and take an omega supplement. Balance Me therapist Mandy Oxley Swan recommends Udo’s Choice Oil, a blend of unrefined seed oils rich in essential Omega Oils, which aid moisture retention.
2. Go easy in the shower
Soaking in the tub or those extra few minutes in the shower can take their toll. ‘Water can be an irritant to skin,’ reveals Balance Me therapist Mandy Oxley Swan. It washes away skin’s natural oils that form the protective barrier function of the skin, locking moisture in and pollutants out. Switch to a moisturising body cleanser such as Balance Me Super Moisturising Body Wash. This all-natural, sulphate-free formula won’t strip skin’s natural oils and it includes Shea Butter to moisturise as it cleanses. Skin feels soft and comfortable and best of all there’s no need to moisturise afterwards. #Timesaver
3. Add in a hydration side kick
Meet your moisturiser’s best winter friend...a facial oil. If you’ve tried a natural, skin-compatible facial oil already, we bet you’ve been converted to their smoothing, hydrating benefits. If not, apply an oil on cleansed skin before your moisturiser and watch thirsty skin drink it in. Apply at night too and wake with refreshed, plumped skin. The all-natural, divine smelling Balance Me Rose Otto Facial Oil is laden with Rose Otto, Palma Rosa and Rose Geranium oils to minimise redness and calm inflammation so it’s perfect for even the most sensitive, winter-worn skins.
4. Go for an upgrade
With your moisturiser the key protector against the elements, it’s worth upgrading to a super hydrating formula. Note: a richer texture doesn’t necessarily mean more moisture for skin; instead look for hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, which holds a thousand times its weight in water. Get your daily hit in the deliciously creamy Balance Me Collagen Boost Restore and Replenish Face Cream. It also contains Blackberry Leaf extract to guard against environmental damage.
