How to get glowing skin this spring

Looking to get that natural glow? Find spring skin radiance with our tips for the best food, activities and skin care products.

Nutrition

As nutrition plays an important part in the health of our skin, leading Nutritionist Lily Soutter gives us her top nutrition tips for how to get glowing skin.

Oily fish is a rich source of essential fatty acids called omega 3 fats. These fats line every cell membrane helping with fluidity. As they help to prevent water loss and keep skin hydrated, they are key for that soft, glowing and supple skin. Omega 3 fats can also be helpful for reducing inflammation inside skin cells which may be helpful for conditions such eczema and psoriasis.

Avocados are a rich source of vitamin E, an essential antioxidant vitamin needed for skin health. Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant which can protect cells from oxidative stress (from factors such as UV rays), which in turn may help to reduce ageing.

Rainbow coloured vegetables come with an array of antioxidants. Antioxidants often contribute to the colour pigments in fruit and vegetables - for example tomatoes are red because of the antioxidant lycopene, whereas blueberries are blue because of antioxidants called anthocyanins. Our skin is constantly being bombarded by free radical damage such as pollution, sunlight, stress, smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, all of which can contribute to ageing. Antioxidants play a role in protecting skin cells from this free radical damage.

Carrots - The bright orange colour of carrots comes from their high content of a special antioxidant called beta-carotene. Beta-carotene is the precursor to vitamin A, an essential nutrient needed for the production of healthy skin cells. This critical vitamin can also help to keep our skin firm and healthy and without it our skin can become dry. Whilst beta-carotene shouldn’t replace your daily sun cream, research does suggest that this antioxidant may help to protect our skin cells from UV rays, which is a primary trigger for ageing.

Oranges are a rich source of vitamin C. Vitamin C is necessary for the synthesis of collagen, the protein that gives the skin strength and elasticity. As we age, we lose collagen, which can lead to wrinkle formation, therefore it is important to include lots of vitamin C rich fruit and veg within in our diet on a regular basis.

Glow-getting Skincare

Not only does eating foods rich in Vitamin C have skin-boosting benefits, Vitamin C is also powerful ingredient in skincare products that helps to give our skin a healthy glow. Our Vitamin C Repair Serum was developed to brighten and firm the skin whilst helping reduce pigmentation and uneven skin tone. Apply in the daytime after cleansing and follow up with the moisturiser of your choice for glowing skin.

For a natural, healthy, sun-kissed tan, add 1-2 drops of our Gradual Tanning Drops to your moisturiser. Made using a 100% naturally derived DHA, you will achieve a streak-free, natural looking tan with no unpleasant smell. Vitamin E also deeply conditions the skin whilst Aloe Vera soothes.

Make sure to use an SPF to protect skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays, prevent premature ageing and protect against pigmentation.

At night-time, give your skin added radiance with our award-winning 100% natural Radiance Face Oil. Dubbed ‘dewy skin in a bottle’, Radiance Face Oil contains Amazonian Buriti Nut Oil is rich in essential fatty acids, which help improve skins firmness, hydration and tone. Rosehip Fruit Oil addresses uneven skin tones and pigmentation, while Yarrow and Chamomile Oils have powerful anti-inflammatory and calming properties. Our head facialist Mandy suggests massaging it into the skin to stimulate cell renewal and increase circulation, to encourage a healthy glow.

Exercise

Not only is exercise good for our mental and physical health, exercise also boosts circulation, which in turn can improve the appearance and health of our skin. Of course, make sure you’re wearing SPF when exercising outside to protect your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays, prevent premature ageing and protect against pigmentation.

Hydration

Lastly, drinking enough water is not only important for our overall health, it’s key for ensuring your skin stays properly hydrated. We keep a jug of water on our desks and try to take regular sips throughout the day. And of course, our Hyaluronic Plumping Mist is always to hand so we can give our skin a bit of love on the outside. Simply spritz on face to give your skin an instant shot of hydration.
